We discuss theoretical and phenomenological aspects of two-Higgs-doublet extensions of the Standard Model. In general. these extensions have scalar mediated flavour changing neutral currents which are strongly constrained by experiment. Various strategies are discussed to control these flavour changing scalar currents and their phenomenological consequences are analysed. In particular . . .

The Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM). which is investigated in this thesis. is a BSM theory which is capable of solving some of the problems mentioned above while still preserving the good agreement between the SM and experiments. The 2HDM provides a simple extension of the SM through the introduction of an additional scalar doublet in the Higgs sector. giving rise to a possible candidate for . . .

Asymmetry. One of the most popular extensions of the SM is the Two-Higgs doublet Model (2HDM). which is formed by adding an extra complex scalar doublet to the SM.

Renormalization of two-Higgs-doublet models. Phys. Rev. D56. 5366 (1997). Renormalization of the CP-conserving. FCNC preserving 2HDM [with Model I and II Yukawa couplings generalized to allow for different patterns of Higgs couplings to quarks and leptons]. J. Velhinho. R. Santos and A. Barroso.

The Standard Model includes massless chiral left-handed neutrinos; however. experiment suggests that the neutrino is a massive particle. We present an exten sion to the Standard Model that gives neutrinos a tiny mass through a second Higgs doublet with small vacuum expectation value. while forbidding Majorana neutrino masses.

Effective Field Theory for QCD-like Theories and Constraints on the Two Higgs Doublet Model Abstract This thesis includes two topics. The first three papers is the major part of this thesis. which is about higher order calculations in the effective field theories of three QCD-like theories. These three QCD-like theories are dis-tinguished by having quarks in a complex. real or pseudo-real . . .

We study a simple two Higgs doublet model which reflects. in a phenomenological way. the idea of compositeness for the Higgs sector. It is relatively predictive. In one scenario. it allows for a “hidden” usual Higgs particle in the 100 GeV region and a possible dark matter candidate.

The two Higgs doublet model (2HDM) is one of the simplest extension of the SM scalar sector. where two scalar doublets are involved in the electroweak sym-metry breaking. An extra Higgs doublet appears in many theories beyond the SM: supersymmetry [32]. explaining the baryon asymmetry of the Universe [33. 34]. or resolving the strong CP problem [35]. The presence of a relatively light neutral . . .

We calculate the rate of π+. K+. D+ and B+→μ+νμ decays. the branching ratio corresponding to H+→τ+ντ. and the box diagrams of Bo↔¯Bo. Ko↔¯Ko and Do↔¯Do mixing in the Two Higgs Doublet Model (Model II). Using the experimental data on meson decay rates. mixing. and CP violation in the Ko and Bo systems we set competitive upper and lower limits to the parameter tanβ as a . . .
